Just as a man

(Guitar INTRO)

Inscriptions on the stone
There, he lies on his own
Look around, there’re hearts torn
Of the ones who mourn
For the one known, and
The one unknown

(Flute solo)

Streaming teary eyes
Crying for the one with pale eyes
Thinking of the life
He lived when alive
But, they said they knew him
Just as a man

(Drum fill)

Laying to rest
By the ones who loved him
Passing the test
In this difficult game
Bathed by her love
She kisses the lid

(Guitar solo)
(Piano solo)

But, they regret they knew him
Just as a man

(Piano EXTRO)

You need to see past the surface to really know someone. The others hearts may be torn, but they don't know for sure who he was because they never really knew him.

Just as a man

Laying to rest

So sad how often that happens

Beautifully done!

@SG - Thanks honey! Muwah! It is so sad that people don't get past the obvious these days. No patience perhaps! Relationships are getting quite superficial these days. That's both sad and scary!

@Shadow - Thanks!

your writing is all soulfull
it is so sad and true and we see it way to often , when someone passes away, we say I wish I had said or done this I wish I knew him more.
I think as two people in love, we need to really take the time to get to know the real ME , YOU, him or her before it is to late.

Annie, I agree with you- always, always if you wish to know someone you must look beyond the surface.

On the other hand- Sometimes I think that to know a person just as a man is a beautiful thing. I realize that's not neccessarily what you were aiming for with this one Ajey, but it did get me to thinking: What more honor could a person have been given than to know they were known as a man and not a monster, not a deity, not anything other than the beautiful human being he was born to be? To be that which made him nothing less than just a Man.

Very true April

Yet to simply be known, given dignity as a human being, is a slight tradgedy if in the end there is no one there to kiss your eyelids, closed in eternal sleep.

To love, and to be loved... that is when you truely know another.

I hope that when I am lain to rest that my heart will have passed the test... and that when I rise again, I will grasp the faithful hand of him who loved me best.

To an extent I feel that these people never came to know this person. This is such a painful feeling even for the soul, which now can never make the people understand what he felt and how he wished he could be understood better. And now, it's all over.

This seems like a life of a common man. They come, they see, but they never conquer. They go away, as silently as the life they lead. But somewhere, deep within I see a lot of sorrow in these lyrics, something that chokes me, and I guess here I am who has never understood the poem!

Very well done Ajey. This is sad but truly common these days. It is hard to "know" someone. I completely agree with Annie's comments.

Although there are two meanings here; of appreciating one's presence known for the way he was, but mainly this conveys the sadness that once attempts to "know" someone only when not around any more.

Keep up the good work Ajey!

@Annie - "I hope that when I am lain to rest that my heart will have passed the test... and that when I rise again, I will grasp the faithful hand of him who loved me best." - this is a fantastic line! I just want to hug and tell you that you'll pass the test and be with Ajey, forever - best wishes from Jennifer

@findingmywingsinlife - To know him/her as a "beautiful human being", one needs to go beyond the surface ergo know someone more than "just as a man".

@SG - Muwah!

@Vittaldas - Well, this should come as a relief that you've understood the song.
