Reflection

(Choir – AH INTRO)
(Flute and Strings begin)
(Piano begins)
(Flute + Piano dual – 15 seconds)
(Flute + Piano + Strings trio – 15 seconds)
(Percussion bridge)
(Soft Drums + Mild guitar strokes begin + Strings/Flute/Piano stop)
(Recital/Sing MALE VOCALS)

My dear river
Could you straighten your
Unforgiving, winding course

Running
Incessantly carrying
Varying
Emotions
Rhyming within

Meandering between
Pebbles and stones
Bathed in your
Glow forever
A revealing reflection

(Saxophone solo)
(Piano bridge)

Guide me to that place
My dear river
Longing for a shore
I shiver to glitter

(Guitar Bridge)
(Strings begin)

Ripples settle down as
I’m going home forever
The leaf floats on its reflection
A true affection

Guide me
My dear river
To my shore
Sweet and pure

(All instruments stop)
(Strings EXTRO)

Emotions that crest, a crecendo, as though reaching the heights of the stream flowing downward, meandering, unbiden in its course. (Much like that lovely run on sentence);D

Hopefully you will reach the shore that you seek, that glittering, shore, sweet and pure.

Lovely piece Ajay. (I've written several times of the river myself)

So very nice, Ajey. Thanks for that. I love all bodies of water. Yesterday I spoke with my Aunt Hilda with whom I will be traveling to Africa over Christmas. On my bike ride yesterday evening I was just thinking of how wonderful it's going to be to see the Nile with its vastness and length. Rivers vary in depth, energy, tributaries and distributaries. As do people, though the body is the same. Rivers are life. Thanks again.

@Judith - "Rivers are life"- So true! Thank you!!!

OK, what did you do with Ajey? I'm worried about him!

Not that you haven't written gorgeous Ajey, but this is so light and fluid. "I shiver to glitter." I love it!

Opaque said...

@Woman in a window - Yes, something very much unlike the current AJ. This is one of my old writings. Thanks, I am glad you loved it!

Brosreview,
Of all the pieces I've enjoyed on your blog, this one truly flows right through my spirit and soul, both the words and the music. Gentle and calming, free spirited, and just perfect for unwinding and having a "down time". "Meandering between Pebbles and stones" ... lovely!

BR,
This one is more heavy than most realize I think. Reflection on oneself, on one's longings and desires of both what they wished the past to be and what the future might hold is never an easy thing to do. Just as a river can not stop its flow, it can also can not change the what path it has already taken. However, just like life- it is both constant and ever changing in the same breath.

Mark Prime (tpm/Confession Zero) said...

Nicely done, Brosereview.

Opaque said...

@findingmywingsinlife - Yes, this one is quite deep due to the heaviness of the meaning. I reckon, while the rest commented that this is comparatively lighter, they were commenting on the writing style. But, yes, the message is still quite heavy.

Thanks, you!!!

'The leaf floats on it's reflection'

Very profound and it certainly flows taking you places at times!!

AJ-leaf floating on it's reflection. Nice and breezy. You were in such a different place back then. ~rick

Yes, I thought the same as The Write Girl, the poem is floating. It is so well composed that I forget the words and in my mind I see this emotional river.

The imagery is incredible and there is a certain restrained quality to this piece, which creates magic.

I associate this lovely lyrics with one of the best songs with the Doors, namely, "Yes, the River Knows"!

This is one of my favourites here!

@Aditya - Thank you!!!

@Rikkij - Yes, I was, wasn't I? Thanks mate!

hey ajey,
i donno abt the instrumentation bro, but the wordings were marvellous.

esp the words,

"Guide me to that place
My dear river
Longing for a shore
I shiver to glitter"

struck a brilliant chord with me.

couldn't understand the lines

"The leaf floats on its reflection
A true affection"

but still felt that it fits there somehow..! beautiful...! :)

AJ,

This is one of the most satisfying reads I've come across in a long time. Probably because I would've written it almost exactly the same way, so I could relate to it, completely. I liked your metaphors and the mood being carried.

Beautiful.

Hi Ajey,

I was curious about your blog because my wife Jenny (Cinnamon)spoke warmly of your writing, so I decided to check it out.

This is brilliant!! I have read many of your lyrics here and they are powerful and unpredictable. I really like how you add both light and dark elements in your texts.

I do not write poetry or lyrics myself, but I appricate reading it anyway.

Cheers,

Ande

I admire the orchestration starting this piece. It is simple, thoughtful and for the same reason, it is simply brilliant!

The acrostic sets the tone for me. It is splendid! It says so much with just a few words. Wisely written!

This is one of your softer pieces, yet you have not made it devoid of your signature style. I appreciate that very much. It confirms to me that you are never off-track.

Especially, to post this after "Until the end" adds more depth to this song.

"Reflection" reflects your mood perfectly...

"Ripples settle down as
I'm going home forever
The leaf floats on its reflection
A true affection"

"The leaf floats on its reflection"? It sounds so easy but how did you even think of it.

"this heart's no diamond", "The leaf floats on its reflection"...
The list grows Ajey...

Think I am the last to comment, been out of town.

Awesome write AJ.
