Crimson Flood

Unquenched thirst for
The power
Drowning in this crimson flood
That has cursed this city
And, this world

This world
Where we close our eyes to sleep
Now, we close them
To weep
For the dead

In the night
In our deep sleep
The evil creeps
But, we see nothing
Though we see something

The thunder in the sky
The blood in the rain
And, this city
Filled with people is
Lashed with the crimson flood

The deadly silence
The unknown silence
Shadows dance as we
Squirm in our sleep on our bed
As we expect the unexpected

The anguished scream
The lone howls
The faint loss of hope
The crackle of humanity

And, our world is hit
By the crimson flood

What remains
Is just memories
The melodious world
The fragrant times

Where is it now?

Was it a dream we’d lived
Or a book we’d read
Shivering breaths
As these eyes cry

Where is it now?
Where are we now?

We dig the grave
For ourselves
Now, the deepest well
Is dark no more

This darkness
Is a treasure
Of peace

And, then
We stand up
To use the dagger

And, then
We step into the puddle
Of bodies and

Bathe in the crimson flood

And, then
We become
A fighter, a killer

We did what was told to us
Now, we do what is told to us
By us

Are we a fighter? Or
Are we a killer?

Unquenched thirst for
The power
Drowning in this crimson flood
That has cursed this city
And, this world
Has been
Slapped
By the crimson flood

Very deep.
It took me several times of reading this one to get it- and even then I'm not sure I have it all understood.
I want to say its more of the rage outside that leads to the rage within, ultimately leaving one to chose to die or live despite "the crimson flood". but, I also feel that the Crimson Flood has a double meaning here.
Perhaps I'm wrong, but still this is very well done. Once again you're really good at decievingly simple things :)

To me a statement of humanity, of our participation in the fate of many, though we feel we affect but a few.

We may try to hide, we may feel as though we are isolated from all that occurs outside our doors, yet somehow we are participants...

Interestingly enough this reminds me of a piece that I wrote when I was about 15... "A Different Kind of War" which I have re-posted for any and all who would like to check it out... ;)

This reminds me of living in a nightmare and the manifestation of it in our realities. Parts of this piece is certainly haunting. Powerful writing here AJ.

This makes me think about the constant struggle for power. It destroys humanity slowly and sometimes we don't open our eyes to see it. This was very thought provoking.

@findingmywingsinlife - Thanks.

@SG - You are absolutely right love. And, as I mentioned at your spot, your poem is like the second part, the aftermath of mine. We should collaborate, hehe.

@The Write Girl - It is about a nightmare except for that it is not in our dreams alone. It is reality. Thanks.

Sorry it took me so long to comment. Blogger was being weird and wouldn't let me read your blog for some reason.

But anyways...I really liked this. I wish I could write something as deep and thought provoking.

I like your music list btw. (:

The evil that can invade lives and take over is gradual and sneaky. If we are not vigilant we can be overtaken before we realize we have fallen into being like others we do not want to emulate. But we are drawn to the power.

"Unquenched thirst" is the root cause. The more you try to quench this thirst, the more insatiable the thirst becomes. It is never ending. What fuels it is the unlimited supply of lives that doom themselves to satisfy the desires of this thirst. This thirst itself has manifested as a dictator who dictates its terms to lives that lured towards it, for the rewards are big and lucrative and the risks are big and deadly as well.

Great strong words with an amazing structure makes it a very strong poem. Great work!

whoa, Ajey a moody piece you've
written. A knowing view of the
world seen thru a negative glass
of wondering.
